Nish hated cooking. Rather, she hated having to take the time to cook. And inevitably it ended up with some rather unpleasant results that were not what was normally classified as 'food.' Sure, she could do the basics - she did know how to boil water and make a few things, and James had taught her a few recipes from Ireland, but not only would that be a painful reminder that he was gone, it was also not really an option in a motel.
However, she was a sucker for any kind of berry. Raspberries especially, but strawberries, blueberries, even blackberries sometimes, were always a welcome addition to her diet. So when she stumbled upon the outdoor market, she couldn't help herself from jumping in. A diet of solid restaurant and takeout food could definitely benefit from the addition of fresh fruit, after all.
So far berries were scarce, painfully reminding her that she was no longer in southern California, but she did manage to find one stand that had a few pints of greenhouse strawberries. She bought some for herself and accepted the paper bag with a smile, blissfully unaware that she was actually in a good mood for once.
She turned to head towards the next stall and spotted someone that instantly drew Loki's attention.
'...the fuck...?' he muttered in her head. She stopped walking and tried to notice what he had.
"What?" she muttered under her breath.
'That guy...' he said, 'I know that...holy shit,' he said, laughing now. Nish ducked her head to hide her reaction, an amused frown now creasing her brow.
"What??" she demanded.
'I have to talk to him,' he said.
"What? Why-"
'Just...trust me. You'll love this.' Nish frowned for a minute and then finally sighed and shrugged, giving in.
"Fine," she said, stepping aside for him. 'Just...don't burn down the market, okay? These berries were expensive.' Loki chuckled in her voice and then turned to head over to the object of his focus.
He sidled up next to the man at a nearby booth and lent against a display of local squash. "Hello, brother," he greeted with an impish grin, confusing the fuck out of Nish.
