Re: [Outside Secondhand Books & Cafe: Misha & Sadie]
Sadie, she slowly was thawing in more ways than one. The warmth of the drink in her belly, the sticky sweet she loved so much that it left on her lips, it went quite nicely with the honey he was putting in her ears. It was the most at ease she'd been since Albuquerque and that memory was still a neatly folded flat, paper, cup that lived in her case. Being able to make a comparison like that made her relax into the booth. It took the strain out clean out of her shoulders and made fiddling with her cup less a thing that was needed.
Truth be told, she even smiled a bit. Remembering what it was like to have a proper sit with someone again, it was nice was what. It'd been quite a spell since it'd happened and it paired up real nice like with how he talked about what was on offer at the Carnival too. Each little thing was a fresh swath of whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon on the mug he'd got for her. Each would see nose scoot just a little closer, her dimples grow a little bigger and her brightness get turned up all the more. Enthralled might have even been the right word by the time he got to stories about the real nice fish-man.
"You're bein' on the level with me, yeah? No pulling me leg?" The skepticism was a mandate and her tone clearly betrayed her hope and want to believe. "I'll come round either way. Couldn't hurt." She paused a bit, lifting her eyes up in a way that was acknowledging and thankful in a way she might never be able to express out loud. "Plus some nice gent gave me a twenty today, can't think of a better way to get some laughs out of it than by playin' a game or five." A genuine, impish, smile followed after, though she meant what she'd said.
A good game at the Carnival, even if the stories about 'em all being rigged were true, was still fun. Sadie had always reckoned that was the whole point of it, so who cared if you didn't get the big blue elephant? The heck were you gonna do with it if you did anyway?
"And I'll meet these people, if you tell me when the quiet day is?" She didn't want to put anyone out on her account and there were plenty of ways to stay busy besides. "That way I can...play somethin'? I'll think of a good number." She promised, before blowing on her cup and taking another sip. Another glance was stolen across the way then, excited and bouncy like a kitten what had found a ball of string all the sudden.
"You're serious?" She lowered her voice. "Not to be rude, but you got an honest-to-goodness Fish-Man and he's nice?"
