Re: [The Mean Eyed Cat: Jack + Cat]
Cat liked to drink. No apologies. She wasn't anyone's minder, either. She owned bars, and she owned places where people gambled, and rather large amount of her income came from addictions. She couldn't concern herself with it, and to each their own. The martini was good, and that was all that mattered. The fact that it wasn't a gulp-down affair? Well, that was just convenient. As for opposites and attraction? She rolled her eyes. "Disagreement isn't the same as opposites. In fact, if you find the right opposite? I think disagreements happen less often. You need someone to look at the world differently because then they look at you differently.
She chuckled when he talked about youth and its appeal to her. "Oh, darling, my youth held no appeal, so it isn't youth in general. But that's neither here, nor is it there. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy reliving your teenage years. Does this mean you welcome being middle-aged again?" There was a teasing smile accompanying that question. She was young again, and she was perfectly willing to poke fun at Jack's agedness.
The martini glass was lifted in a toast when Jack issued his smooth compliment about the roadside motel. "Well, look at you. Gone is the youth that couldn't issue a compliment to save his ass." And, hiding? "How was being young or how was hiding? Hiding was dull, and coming home was much better, but I don't regret the trip. It was a good trip, and my time with my daughter was very good. It was a good end to the year. As for being young? I've decided to no longer care, and it's wonderful. I'm me. Take me or leave me." Confidence in spades from the girl now wiping down the bar.
