Re: [The Mean Eyed Cat: Jack + Cat]
Jack paid attention. God above, forgive him, etc, etc. He paid attention, regardless of purpose. Partially, the absence of knowing exactly what it was Cat would pull off the shelf if asked and the absence of knowing if he even bloody knew when he remembered everything put together. He was beginning to think (at last, etc.) that very likely he didn't, but the thick, black misery that coated the nights presently, only ran so far.
"Lopsided? It's a bloody boat with one paddle. You can go around in circles, but you can't go anywhere. You know, I don't think I'd know you at all if I hadn't gone along this particular road." Which she probably already knew, given the last couple of months. This, and he looked at the glass rather than drinking it immediately.
"I remember telling you about how I remember things ended with her. How's that, shared memory, a boat that can actually sail." He smiled, and he caught the Johnny Cash over guitar and hurt was too sharp a word for this. "I remember what actually happened, which is, I have discovered, distinctly easier without whiskey. I don't know, I saw Adrian get his leg over in distinctly un-Adrian fashion, I think that counts."
