Re: log: jack/louis
"I was serendipitously bequeathed a store," he said, with a wry expression that acknowledged the strangeness of it - both of the gift and of his willingness to accept it. "I have no idea who this person was, and I think it may very well be cursed, yes." He paused. Why had he accepted the store? "It happened to fall into my lap at just the right moment," he said. "My sister had left New York to move here, and I frankly assumed that the person who left me the store knew about my situation, somehow. I tried to investigate it and hit a brick wall. The executor informed me that I had been designated by name, and that the estate had acknowledged it would be a surprise to me. So they knew I didn't know who they were, or wouldn't guess."
"I think that's Marley's bit," he said, mildly amused. "I'm not here to warn you of your future sins, Jack. Not unless you want to hear about them, and you and I were very much out of touch between...well, about the age you are now and when we met again in Repose a short while ago. I don't know many of the details. And what would it help? You might have been given the opportunity to try something new. Start fresh."
