Re: log: eddie/steph -- karma's bite
Eddie wasn't the same man who knelt in the middle of a waiting room. That was the flurry of Jersey under his skin. Madness clung to him like summer rain and the fear of loss was greater than logic or reason. Back in that sterile waiting room, the walls used bubblegum pink and those hollow eyes around them staring at something they couldn't understand. Back then, he held onto her like a man held onto the edge of a cliff.
Was now any different? The need was still there, the belief that he didn't see a future for himself without her. This time there was no cliff. Loneliness, sure, that came with an understanding of where his place was in the world. But, Stephanie was different. She was strong, open, ready to take on the wild world with him.
Eddie kissed her back desperately and maybe that was a little like old times. He ran his fingers through her blonde hair, opening his mouth for her as her tongue pushed against his. He held her tight, pressing his body against hers as the snow melted under them. "Maybe this was how it was supposed to happen." Eddie whispered back, brushing a blonde strand out of her face and smiling.
"Let's go home." He kissed her again and then reached for her hand, the one with the ring, and kissed her fingers. It felt good to say home and mean a place that wasn't Jersey.
