Re: log: leo/dawn go on a walk
She was made of swoons and romance, and the way he kissed her was nothing she'd experienced before. It was excitingly vivid in the dreamlike haze of her life. But he wanted to make her laugh, and laugh she did, holding on to him tighter to nuzzle her giggles up against him. His question took a moment to register, blissfully preoccupied with being so close. "Rabid?" Dawn murmured between a couple of kisses to his cheek, her fuzzy romantic feelings put on the back burner when she had to snap out of dreamland to check out what he was talking about.
"Aww!" A squirrel! How delightful.
Dawn regretfully stepped out of the embrace so she could take a good look at their visitor. "Hello, little one," she spoke as she lowered herself down into a squat and held her hand out to beckon it closer. The squirrel actually looked ecstatic, as much as a squirrel could, its eyes bright and tail fluffed up all pretty. It grabbed a rather large acorn from the ground in front of it, and then stretched up as tall as it could go to present the acorn to Dawn like Rafiki presenting Simba to the pride. Her smile went wide once more, "For me?" Her palm was offered out to the squirrel who then dropped the acorn into her hand before the squirrel pushed and dug at her fingers to try and bury the prize in her hand.
Dawn grinned up at Leo and motioned him to come down with a gentle tilt of her head as she scratched her fingers along the side of the squirrel's neck, "It's okay." As in, the squirrel wasn't rabid. If Leo came down to join them, the squirrel would side-eye him a little, but it would allow Leo to pet him if he tried. If Leo didn't, well, that's completely understandable. It was pretty unbelievable. "I'll keep it safe for you until Spring," she promised the little squirrel, who allowed more of the under-chin scratches and petting for a few moments before it went scampering back up into the tree.
Perhaps the weirder part than a Disney-esque squirrel encounter was the fact that Dawn didn't seem the least bit surprised by it. She stood back up with that smooth grace she was embodied with and tucked the acorn into the pocket of her cardigan. "Tell me more about the hybrid plants you were telling me about before? They sound amazing." She reached out for his hand with that beaming smile she couldn't get rid of when he was around. Yep, she was glossing over what just happened.
