Her palm was warm, like the edges of a bonfire and the tips cool, like the brush of wind. It didn't stop him from curling his fingers around and holding secure, not too tight, but not recklessly lose either. Who was he to tempt such affections from a Goddess? Yet, he still enjoyed her quiet, solid company on the grass beside him.
"Even if you are a tiny cog, you exist. You're here for a reason. Maybe you don't know why and maybe you do, but you can look up at the stars and know how vast they are and you might be small, but not insignificant. You've got meaning, long after people forget you," he said quietly, chin tilting up towards the sky. "And yeah, I like that. It's humblin' and awe-inspirin' all that the same time." It was a good reminder for someone who would otherwise be reckless.
"You warm enough? You can come closer if you aren't." He didn't say much else, but his arm curved around her body as she did and it felt like she belonged there. Solid, and not like the dreams that chased him across the empty swathe of time. "You matter," he whispered to her as he drifted off, lulled by the sense of another next to him.
