Re: [Art installation: Sam & Lou]
[Louis had talked to Sam in the weeks since her transformation. What he'd found was a girl much more like the one he first met in Las Vegas, in some ways - and in others, someone more manic and restless than he'd ever known Sam to be. Perhaps he'd simply forgotten what she was like back then, but he was fairly confident this was a notch above even a younger, more effervescent version of herself. He wanted to have faith, for her sake, that it was good news - that any sharp highs would be blunted with time.
But how much time? The specter of that thought had been rolling around in his mind for weeks. What would this all mean five years from now, when Sam still looked fresh-faced and youthful, and Cris aged, and her child grew older? What would it mean in twenty years? There was no sense lingering on these thoughts, but they were the worries he mulled over when he woke in the middle of the night, half-asleep, muddled in the dregs of bad dreams. By daylight, he tried to forget them. For now, he put them out of his mind. Whatever the future might hold for all of them, they'd sort it out. They always did.
Aside from his private worries for her, there was the apprehension that came with seeing her again for the first time since the accident. He'd kept away so long in large part due to Cris' clear warnings. Even knowing he had better control today than he had months ago didn't make his fear disappear entirely.
When Sam bounced down the stairs and came running up to the door, a shock of blue hair, a moving target, he smiled. He felt a rush of want, edge-thin but not to strong, sated some, like a dulled knife. But that was all, and relief flooded him when she opened the door.]
Sam - [No chance for greetings, she was already leaping into his arms. He staggered backward in surprise, but he managed to catch her. He wasn't quite as wispy as he seemed, but she did almost carry him down the steps. He caught himself with a hand on the railing, laughing with relief when they didn't fall.] Sam! For pete's blood sake, you're going to take us both down!
