Re: quicklog: adrian/newt - the lake
[Where Newt saw reason, Nameless saw betrayal. Who cared if Adrian would have found out eventually? The longer he was able to draw the discovery out, the longer he was safe. The longer everybody was safe, the way he saw it. Now he had to face down an all-out war inside his own head while trying to keep the Obscurus from eating them both alive.
Sure, there was a chance it would all turn out to be a better arrangement in the long run - no more sneaking around, no more putting things back where he found them. With the cat out of the bag, he could do his own thing. Have a life, right? Unless he went the other way, and played it quiet to see if Adrian chilled the fuck out. Funnily enough, he didn't think that was gonna work.
Newt rubbing at his eye didn't hold Nameless back, or slow his backward trajectory. Adrian would have cared very much about the distress that he had caused his oldest friend. Nameless, however, seemed to have room only for anger. Betrayal, too.
He brushed past Newt, going in the opposite direction - his lighter was still on the picnic table.] Better hope so. [He turned his back on Newt, walking down the path again.] Otherwise, I'd get your fucking goodbyes in.
