[She was used to Atticus informing her that she was troublesome. Or an annoyance. Or any number of other things. She didn't mind, because he'd still stuck around to continue informing her of how much trouble she was. If he'd truly felt that way, she felt like he would've been harsher about it. So she opened her eyes and clicked her beak at him, being certain to not get too close to fingers that were helping to ease her into... a sock.
But before the sock is fully settled, as the man who isn't Atticus is telling her to be still, another memory washes over her. It lasts several very long minutes of trembling and tension, and when it finally ends and breaks, she can do nothing more than hang her head low and lets out an ongoing, warbling comfort sound, as if she's trying to calm herself or a brood of young.]
