Bruce sighed a beleaguered sigh. He'd lost this battle decades ago. "There are no victim-less crimes. Are you sure you can't meditate in some other way?"
Bruce shook his head slowly. "I understand. You're not cruel. You just don't want to risk your feelings, and prefer to risk mine. If you are wrong, you are not hurt. Only me. Mine bear it better." He met her eyes, slate, tired, but true. Bruce, whatever else he was, had good at his core.
And a hero complex to end all hero complexes.
"Thank you," the hero said. He added dots of ketchup to his next french fry.
