Re: Lake banks
And now, her time was done in the water. She'd decided just that quickly. She was an odd thing; she could decide what she wanted and when she wanted. The lake sloshed around her knees and then her calves as she walked. She finally stopped when the silt and water were only covering over her ankles, much closer to him.
"Often enough, is what I meant. Not as much as I once was, but I'm alone often enough, and with tonight being like this, I don't think I want to be alone now." She lifted one foot and kicked her toes along the water in his direction. There wasn't nearly enough force for the drops to get within range of his foot, and the low light glinted off a smile that was just enough to show teeth. He'd laughed before, and she was just now realizing that she'd liked the sound of it.
"I didn't feel like saying anything then. Now I do. What made you laugh before? Was it seeing me walk into the lake?" Her voice was curiosity only, no offense taken.
