Her hands dropped back to her side, her fingertips just shy of the water's surface, and she turned back toward shore. Toward him. The ripples spread out from her in concentric rings, making her the center sun of a watery solar system. In the slightest bit of light that made it to the shore from the house, she put her hands on her hips once she had her feet settled again in the soft lakebottom and shook her head.
"If I'd wanted to be alone, I wouldn't have walked right past you and stopped here. I was just offering. Thought you might like to join." She shifted her weight enough for another shiver of rings to spread out from her legs. "I'm alone enough. I'd like you to stay if you want to stay." She took a moment for thought, and when she spoke again, her voice had deepened with a smile. Invisible in the nighttime dark, but obvious nonetheless. "Even if you don't feel like joining me in the lake."
