Re: Home: Iris and Manning
Where her thoughts went, he didn't - or couldn't - always follow. Sometimes he had to wait for her to give them a voice before he could understand. Other times, he had to guess and watch for her reaction to see what gave the largest clues when she couldn't pass them from her brain to her lips. But, when she shuddered, he took in a deep breath and waited again. Whatever was coming wasn't going to be good.
Though, he wasn't surprised by her confirmation. Maybe that guilt would last forever, Manning didn't know, or maybe she and Sam would find a way through it to a better relationship.
"You do," he confirmed. "You even have the right to feel guilty over feeling angry, even if I wish you wouldn't." A little hint of a smile, because he could not, and did not want to, control that. Her feelings were her own. Though the next bit made him frown, his fingers digging in slightly as if to keep her exactly where she was.
"What do you mean? She could destroy your life?" Was there more that he didn't know about? No, he didn't think so. Maybe it was her carrying her fears to the worst extremes. He sighed, but first things first. They'd talk about her discounting her feelings after.
