"It could." There was always a could. But she could be hit by a car coming out of the bakery tomorrow, or TJ could be struck by lightning. They were both possible, but he didn't say either one of them as he listened.
He felt her sigh, his own head dipping so he could kiss her hair, his hand slowly slinking up and down the ridged plank of her spine. Nor did he tell her that he had known for months - since shortly after New Years and he'd been waiting on the final word from her. "Would you rather find out that you lost something you never knew you had? Or would you rather have the possibility of it and then find it gone through no one's fault?" There was something else in her voice though, and he wanted that. "It's okay to be angry. And it's okay to want to be the one to tell people, and it's okay to be that actually does tell people. But if you don't want TJ to know yet--" Something he didn't feel comfortable with, it sat like a fat secret in the middle of the room. "You're going to have to shove rolls in my mouth tonight to keep it from slipping out."
