Re: [Gunster Dinner]
Connie waited until the boys had enough food and then filled her own plate. She reached for her beer and smiled before taking a swig. It had been a long time since she had anyone at the house. Now she had both her brothers and there was a good chance she'd try to group hug them later. Especially if she had enough to drink. And, if there was one thing this generation of Gunsters had in common, it was the need to make harmony in a social situation. She could see it from Adrian. Oh, he lacked the bombastic nature of their father, but he had a hidden charm. It was genetic. They couldn't help it.
"Destiny is the right kind of normal for you. I told her I wouldn't nudge you into calling her, but you should call her!" Connie insisted and there wasn't any passive aggressive don't-you-dare sisterly tone. She was serious. She thought Patrick ought to meet a nice girl soon and Destiny was as nice as they got. Connie was the only Gunster allowed to be a forever alone.
The next part was a little rough because Connie knew she couldn't tell Adrian everything right away. She also wasn't convinced that Adrian even knew what the machines could do, since dad and his mom worked in a super secret science facility run by fellow crazy scientists. "Trying to get them running, yes." Connie nodded and then shrugged. "They think I have the key to making them work locked up in my brain somewhere." That part was true and so was this: "And, I always admired Dad's work. I wanted to see his machines for myself. Not just the ones he kept in the shed. It's some dumb destiny thing. Like- I feel compelled to at least preserve what he did now that he's gone."
