Dreary days here also. The people are thin and as reliable as wet paper, and of poor opinion of themselves. They are too apt to smoke and drink, and taste of twice cured leather and lye. Disgusting.
As Atticus, I think you overestimate your control over the desert thing. You would be better free of it, we agree, though no doubt much is said on the same vein about myself. It is a threatening, jealous thing, and I've no fondness for it at all. You would be no god in its grip. A waste of time, is godliness.
