Re: Quicklog: Jack & Newt at the B&B
[Newt could be pedantic, but usually only when it applied to animals, and then, only when he felt they were threatened by someone's ignorance. About this, about Jack, he wasn't. And in a great many ways, he was much like a pale shadow of his brother, a thinner, more watery version of Penhaligon stock. He was softer and scrawnier. A poor man's imitation, had he, in fact, ever tried to imitate his brother. But, he did not. Newt, before he was anything, was himself. Always, for better or worse.
He laughed quietly at Jack's response and gave a half-shrug as his brother resumed his movements.] The intended audience is anyone. Everyone. It must be accessible. [Those handful of words felt like too much talking and Newt knew he could go on a tangent on this particular topic. He had annoyed many people doing just that.—Jack's question was a good derailment.] My deadline is the middle of next year, but—[How did he say this...]—those I know are not too fastidious about such. It may well be finished sooner, in any case. [There was still much to be done, of course, but he had been working nonstop for 18 months—leastwise until their father's passing.
Newt very nearly bit his lip, but he settled for shaking his head.] That won't be necessary, but thank you. [A smile quirked a question on his lips and he peered at his brother with his idiosyncratic and inconsistent intensity.] What was that look for?
