She offered him a smile - the friendly baker one - and shook her head. "It's here and you're here, so it must have been meant for you." It was the sort of statement that could have been flirty, but there wasn't any sort of tease to it. She took a step away from the counter, toward the back work table where the towel lay, though the bakery was small enough that she didn't have to raise her voice at all. "I'll get it packaged up for you..."
Lifting the towel away let the soft scent of apples spiced with the tiniest bit of cinnamon waft up at her, and she was glad that her back was to the customer so that he couldn't see the fleeting expression of resignation cross her face. It didn't take long for her to package everything up and walk back to the front counter, laying it down and turning to the (slightly out-dated) cash register to ring him up.
