Re: Log: The Cat - Cat/Matt
[Matt didn't know what sort of man he was just yet. Some things had settled in, were definite. Some had yet to be tested. When it came to sex - well, it didn't did it. He couldn't exactly hop in with just anyone, not with the obvious metal appendage, not even if he kept his shirt on. And in the months when he'd been slowly surfacing from years kept underwater, he hadn't lacked interest, only a willingness to get near anyone and be completely convinced they'd make it through the encounter. That wasn't exactly great grounds for good sex.
He didn't imagine her as someone who needed calming, but there it was. He couldn't get it all right. He knew her was more to her than exterior cool, but he wondered, who had her on edge?] Could get more specific. [Not taking the non-answer on that one. It was just too loaded.
Matt took the revelation that Steve had screwed a man at the art show with a long look, difficult to read.] No. [He didn't know. But Steve was different, and him cheating on Cat - with a man, no less - set free a tumble of confusion. That didn't mesh.] That doesn't make any sense. [He believed it was true, yet couldn't reconcile it. Then again, he didn't remember much from those days, just a general sensation of character, and Steve had lived forty years of the modern world that Matt had missed. It wasn't about the commitment, or even about the man. Men did things sometimes, not talked about, and especially at war. It was the combination of the two, that he'd wanted it enough to betray Cat's trust. It meant a context on what few memories he had must be readjusted, reconsidered. That was unsettling.
More important, though, was that it hurt Cat, who didn't need any more hurt from anybody else.] If you asked me the person I thought was least likely to do that kind of thing, I would've said him. I'm sorry. [It didn't mean he was all wrong, but it did mean Steve hurt her. It was too bad he couldn't ask him to explain. Surely, there was a good reason.
That hiss was more in line with what Matt expected. 'Calvin,' nice as he surely was, had still made misery for others when he knew he'd die at the end of the story.] I come in. [Surprise, apparently, that he came in somewhere. Heavy topics aside, he smiled, just a little.] You're the one who got his attention.
