Re: hookerville: jack & destiny
[It was fair to say that nobody knew Destiny when she wasn't pretending to be somebody else. Billy got close, and Wyatt was the closest without even knowing the hows or whys. Such were the perks of childhood, the oblivious trust that sat candy-sweet in her heart. Her johns had known her as one thing, the people around town knew her as something else, and even her new boss knew her as something other than that. Somewhere in between, there was an overlap. Somewhere in between was Destiny, the truth of her, the mash up of all that make believe that came from somewhere real inside her. She was princess and goddess, she was love and chaos, she was hope as much as she was hope lost.]
Never had a cat. [And she sounded almost sad about that, but a little hopeful too, like one of those too would come to her little farm one day.] They were all over Bucharest, in the streets. Even the wild ones would let you get close if you had some smoked trout. Or was it herring? I can't remember which one they liked best.
[She started clanging around with a couple of pans in the kitchen, cutting bacon out of its plastic package with the slash of a knife.] How many what?
