He actually laughed, chuckling under his breath. "You know, only they would have called that weakness," he said. "Caring that people stay, feeling unimportant? You are not weak, little mouse. You are...important." His gaze steadied momentarily, and that was an old look.
He didn't flinch from her lean. He rested his hand open, upward facing and pink, on the table - almost within reach. "You know," he said, simply. "What could happen. Me. What I am. He imagines. Doesn't know. Not any harder than him. Worse. But you were there." He tipped his head. "You know it would be a good thing."
He released a sort breath when she acknowledged what he'd said, and his shoulder dropped. He nodded, once. They understood each other.
"If you're negotiating," he grated, pausing, per usual, halfway through the sentence, "Tell them. Cable. I want cable." He pointed at the tiny television. "And netflix."
