Re: [log: antique store - daniel/claire/louis]
Daniel bared his fangs and Claire's sharpened gaze transfixed upon him and his anger. Her eyes were double-edged swords, whetted on either side with the adoration of God or His vengeance, and swung upon those in the room twice as hard. The order came fast, native Italian rolling off her tongue without thought and with a cold strength that had not invaded her voice since Rome, "Enough, Daniel. Both of you." But if her words were heard, there was no sign of acknowledgment as they continued. She sighed in exasperation and rolled her eyes. Daniel would not hurt Louis, no matter what was inside, so she felt no immediate need to step up and stop the boys from their posturing.
A cigarette would be nice right now.
Instead of smoking, she got to interrupt the two from her chair, "You seem to forget that immortality means nothing. It makes you forget how to appreciate life. What a gift it is to not take every day for granted. Our lives are short, but we are human. We have all the knowledge of those that came before us. We learn, we grow, we adapt. We evolve and you? You remain ever the same, doomed to an eternity where you must scramble for recognition since memory of you dies out more and more every generation." Oops. Sorry, Daniel. That wasn't directed at you. Sadly, there was no way for her to make the exception, apart from the fact that her stare was piercing along Louis' face.
If this creature wanted the Bellatora, the Bellatora would gladly make an appearance. There were no parlor tricks to intimidate. No effect upon the temperature. Just a girl who slowly uncrossed her legs and thumped gloved fingers on the arm of her seat while Louis provoked and Daniel closed the distance. Brandished with nothing more than the most dependable weapon in her arsenal, her faith, Temperance's words in thick Italian filled the room and prickled the air, "There is only one God, and God arises." Those last two words were the opening of one of many ancient exorcism rituals and echoed the weight of faith beneath them as warning to those that opposed the one true God.
"Need I continue? Did my ancestor continue when you ran from her? How long ago was that? How much do you think we have learned in that time? Did she know how to untwist you from someone's soul and banish you to a realm where you will have to fight me for your right to exist? I do." Very melodramatic and some exaggeration, but not a lie. The preparation took a very long time, and the ritual components were in Dolceacqua. It wasn't anything that could happen tonight, but she could make it sound like it would. Claire dipped easily back into English and leaned into the chair with a casualness that insinuated there would be no fight. "Have you ever been in battle? You. Not your hosts. How long do you think you could last?" Comfortable. Conversational. Honestly curious. Totally not trying be a target to keep the thing from angering Daniel more.
