Re: [log: antique store - daniel/claire/louis]
Daniel's retreat was not from Louis, particularly once he was through the door and the unknown was shut behind him. Daniel's behavior was a more extreme of Louis', the latter relaxing as they went deeper into his own private sanctum much the same way Daniel did in his home. While no color came back into his face, Daniel too could relax, as he trusted both people present and he had been in the apartment multiple times, evident by the way he made himself comfortable with his tea and moved around the furniture.
Daniel watched Louis' movements with the espresso contraption for a few moments with evident interest. When Louis looked back at his face, the other man caught Daniel in the act of giving him a searching look. At the eye contact, he only smiled a small smile and returned to the living room with his mug. He had nothing to say about the books, choosing not to mention his own research into the subject because he had found nothing of note and he thought any claims of concern might sound defensive to Louis, whom Daniel assumed viewed this as interference. Daniel had not quite forgiven Sam, Louis and Cris for their treatment of him, nor was he ever likely to understand Sam's unreasoning panic in the face of his decision to share information with Claire. He felt it to be a demonstration of suspicion, a lack of trust, and didn't understand that Louis seemed not to show that behavior here.
Instead of sitting, or meeting Claire's eyes, Daniel lurked around the exterior of the room and looked blankly at the books or antiquities in reach. He was stalling too, and trying not to think about the last time he had met either Claire or Louis. Her question made him look up and over at Louis.
