Re: Eddie's House: May / Eddie
May's expression, though still with the lightness of humor beneath it, went familiarly flat for a moment. "Are you trying to get me to reassure you that you're not an earthworm? Because even they have a place in the garden." Again, a moment of seriousness, as she continued. "It doesn't have to be if you stop trying to tread water and just float. Different technique." Back around to gardening, she didn't comment on his last statement, the one defensive enough to make it seem like he was backpedaling so as not to offend. She only smiled again.
Her laughter was back at his curiosity, a raspy chuckle and a shake of her head. "It's just fertilizer." Again, that tone of 'duh', but she looked at him, considering. Appearing to debate something as her her eyes held mischief. She finally came to a decision and leaned in, all secrets in her expression. "Magic fertilizer." Another smile, more of a grin. She was teasing.
The smile faded again to a forced expression of irritation as he hesitated in putting the dirt back into the hole. "I know you don't need a hint with this part." But with one hand still holding the plant upright and steady, she reached over for his wrist, putting it over the moat of the hole, and shook it a little to get him to release the soil. "Just scoop it in. It's easier." Even though she knew he had to know, she played along with the continuing lesson.
