Re: Eddie's House: May / Eddie
He laughed at her tone steeped in well obviously and he shook his head. "Look, I'm only saying that I'm impressed anyone would stick around me this long." Eddie tilted his head and laughed again, honestly swept up in how alive something as simple as fresh earth could make her. He wouldn't have believed there was a side to her like this. He could imagine the look she'd give him if he even began to bring it up later. Since he had no idea if he'd ever get to see her like this again, he tried hard to remember it. The way she smiled from ear to ear, how her hair seemed to break lose from the braid on her shoulder, the brightness in her eyes. He memorized it to the very best of his abilities.
She squeezed his fingers and he looked down and squeezed back. "She couldn't possibly know all of them. I don't even know all my secrets." Eddie responded and his voice was fond, easy. Relaxed, of all things. "What do you know that I don't?" He asked the soil and then let her hand lead him into cupping the earth and digging a hole. Eddie hadn't imagined himself planting the flowers with his bare hands, and he absolutely didn't think May would be there guiding his movements, but he was happy to go along with it.
He took the initiative for himself, digging in deep, wiggling his fingers through the soft dirt and then carefully moving it over to the side of the hole. "Here, hold your hands out." Eddie took her hands and cupped them together before digging into the ground and gently filtering dirt into her hand so she could hold it and then add it to the pile next to them. His fingers were caked with wet, warm dirt with lines of it under each fingernail. But, he didn't care. He liked the way it made her smile and it brought him this strange calm that wasn't depressing or stifling. It made him feel like he was simply alive and that was a nice change of pace.
"A bit more?" He asked and continued to dig, scooping with both hands and looking up at her with a surprised, happy smile. "If this plant needs me to dig to the center of the earth, I'll try my best." He joked and gave a gentlemanly bow to the flowers in her basket.
