Felicity came through the dark like shadow. The mansion from a distance looked almost exactly like the kind of grotesque ode to newly-found finances that home had been once: transplanted stone, wide-mouthed balconies and an affectation to riches that didn't belong here. The cocaine? That was a given. But homesickness was very far from mind. Home had been torn down by degrees and taken away in boxes, because to Felicity and her father, home was the priceless artwork on the walls and without it? The mansion was just an empty display case. People hadn't been home in years, but her father had loved her mother enough and long enough that Felicity thought he deserved a chance. The kind of chance where he had options, instead of a woman he desperately wanted to please. Love wasn't an option, it was a death sentence.
But homesickness? Gone. The only thing Felicity brought with her was the suit. It was custom, even if it was old now and it had stretched with her as she'd grown - not very much, but enough. Black, liquid matte over skin and if it teetered on bad comic book over the ass and tits, she had been fifteen when Daddy had bought the kevlar reinforcements at knees and elbows to keep her alive and tip money from the front desk didn't pay that kind of bill.
The hair was braided down against her scalp, and tucked under a hat made of the same kind of material. She had lock-picks in the belt she wore cross-ways over one shoulder and a number of other party favors that came in useful when you were trying to steal from a museum or a house desperately trying to hold onto their nice things. The only thing that resembled the front-desk girl? Her mouth was still painted cherry-red.
Luck was putting one foot in front of another where it was most soundless and when she appeared close enough to Reaper's side, she didn't know he was there. But luck didn't require knowing, and she waited, her breath rising and falling as her heart hammered against her ribs in glorious anticipation of what was a bigger pull-off than the local art show.
