Re: Arcade: Gwen & Perry
Perry had been a close second to her top-student at Midtown, at least until the spider bite at Rycorp, and (even then) his grade plummet was because of his extracurricular activities, and not out of any lack of intelligence. He'd made his own webs, and she wanted to ask him all about that, but she knew he didn't like her owning information that she hadn't acquired firsthand, so she was attempting to control her curiosity (for the time being). So, when he talked about the RFID chip, she listened. "We can't block it, because they'll know something's off. We need to replicate it, and we need to do it with enough control that I can switch from the replica to the real RFIP chip when I go into the lab, which means we need intel. But we can't do any of that without having serious knowledge of what's reading it. You're right." In her mind, that was Step One.
But Flash and Jason 'getting over it' wasn't something she could envision happening any time soon. "You know what?" she asked, watching as he flipped over, as if he'd done it a million times before. She predicted his landing perfectly, and she was up and facing him by the time his feet landed. "I think you should be in charge of getting them to work together. Jason hurt MJ, and Flash cares a lot about her. You're going to totally have your work count out for you."
He couldn't see it, but she rolled her eyes at him in the dark. "Aunt May was everyone's surrogate mom in high school. MJ always says she misses her advice, and Flash misses her cooking. They can totally go spend time without it being about taking care of her. It could be about them needing her, and it wouldn't even be a lie, Perry. None of us have parents, and so borrowing yours is about us, not about her. Um... about them. I know I can't go without making it weird."
The doors opened on the far side of the room, and a loud group of teenagers filed in. "Okay, I better go. Um..." She hugged him quickly, the stuffed elephant bapping his hip. She scuffed her foot on the neon carpet as she drew back. "Thanks. For meeting me, I mean. I know it's hard." A smile filtered back into her voice, teasing, "and good luck with Flash and Jason. You're totally going to need it."
