Re: [Sharon and Cat having a drink or ten]
What happened. Well that was a loaded question. She wasn't even sure she could call them missing. Were they missing? They were in the sense that she didn't know where they were, not really. She took a deep breath and another drink of the old fashioned Old Fashioned she'd made. Her hands were shaking just slightly as she lowered the glass back down to the bar top.
The real story surrounding Sharon, and the birth of her children had been well covered up. The official story on the books was that she'd gone missing during a mission, been found pregnant - the father of the child was a boyfriend she'd had at the time - a civilian who was neither here nor there and no one of any importance aside from someone who had knocked up a case officer. It was fairly uninteresting and non-dramatic. There were a handful of people who knew the truth, it was a short list.
"Their father wasn't a librarian from Bethesda," she started slowly. "When I was a case officer working with enhanced assets, he was assigned to my network," she paused and smiled a bit. "After I'd already met him as luck would have it. After the standard lies had already been told on a few dinner dates, awkward doesn't begin to cover that morning in the briefing room. We didn't end it. We paid a huge price for that. I haven't seen him since I was pregnant, he might be dead. I don't know. But - in order to keep my kids - I agreed to stay on board after they were born. Life was - complicated. But fine.
Ninety-Four days ago I took the twins to the doctor for a check-up. They took blood. They got a lollipop. We went home. I took them to pre-school the next morning, I went to work, and I was informed that my children were being placed into new care per the terms of my current contract. I can't quite find the clause that lists four year olds as assets, but needless to say I'm guessing their blood tests showed some changes that weren't there last year.
I was advised not to cause a stir. It was basically my worst nightmare.
I got a call a few weeks ago, telling me I needed to come here. So here I am. Waiting to find out why I'm here. Because my children certainly aren't here."
