Re: carriage house - michael and atticus
Atticus wasn't surprised by Michael's location. Still thought of all the boys as kids. Was marginally appropriate as a location. "Was here after she died. By the sounds of it, she was active. Don't just go easily when they're like that. Not in my experience." Banishing wasn't, Atticus thought, anything like the boys thought it was. Didn't always work, and made things worse when that happened. Problem with what these kids did, it was that they only knew a fraction of what happened beyond the mundane world. There was so much more out there, and things went wrong when people messed with what they didn't understand. Like what happened with Carver.
The song Michael suggested was a familiar one. Atticus liked his old music. Found it comforting. Like Michael found his own joking comforting. That comment about names over doors. Atticus laughed slightly. Was supposed to be a joke, he knew. Wasn't supposed to sound sad. Atticus thought it did sound sad. But he didn't say as much. "Think getting it in writing only helps if you're willing to sue after. Don't seem like the legal recourse kind of man."
Atticus let it drop when Michael said he'd figure something out if the dead wife showed up again. Atticus wasn't the kind of men to count chickens before they hatched. Wasn't the kind of man to worry about something until it was on his doorstep. This was just like the rest. Was willing to wait and see what happened. Michael would ask if he needed help, when and if the time came.
Now, the thing about Tethys, Atticus was willing to accept that. He was an outsider. Michael worked for the company. Who was he to say he knew better than Michael did? Didn't. Only knew that things sounded bad. Only knew that if people had died there, then Repose was going to be even harder to live in than normal. Luckily the B&B was on the opposite side of town. Distance was a hard thing for new haunts to cross. "Sounds like a winner. Hopefully things will calm down. Company might end up sold. Two incidents in a row can't be good for stock. Unhappy stockholders are a bad thing for a big company."
But the thing about being married to a ghost and dating a demon, that made Atticus chuckle an honest chuckle. "Good looking demon. There's that."
