Janus really had no idea why he was so interesting to the big boss. Souls like his had to be a dime a dozen - if not cheaper. Maybe it was because he wanted to be here, in town, and Janus presence was sort of an add-on, an event just short of coincidence. Or maybe he just didn't show enough fear, and that was interesting. Janus stared thoughtfully at the ceiling and chewed on a thumbnail.
He lifted one shoulder and then dropped it again, unconcerned. "Big-time means you deal with more demons, and I've always been a lone gunman type." Janus never had the patience for politics, which is why he never got promoted in the army, and wasn't likely to as a demon, unless some special concession was made. (Janus hoped not. That was sure to make him real popular.)
Finally Janus slid a shrewd glance sideways. "Seems your place isn't fixed either."
