The idea that Ella had been sent for her own reasons surprised the hell out of Janis, and it showed. Her finely-sketched eyebrows went up, and she wondered at his apparent lack of interest. Maybe he already knew, and his lack of possessiveness made Janis wonder exactly how those two were doing these days. Strange. Workplace drama, she had heard a coworker call it.
Janis stared at him over the toes of her boots. "I do it the other way," she said, finally. "Come here." She kicked her feet off the table and dropped them to the worn floor with a thud. He might not have any concern for chumming around in a church, but she had an ever so slight moment's hesitation before offering her palm, and then touching two fingers together to produce a teardrop flame for the tip of his cigarette.
She frowned at him. "You don't have to answer, if you don't want to. I don't have any idea what your kind of problem is."
