Re: quicklog: cat, matt, steve
[The cord wrenched from the meat of Cat's thigh lay on the floor of the control room, lifeless, in a spread of blood and a thick, flexible gel Steve wasn't going to touch. Untethered from its power source and from what it was attempting to power—Cat—, it was nothing but a length of... whatever it was, and, had it not been pooled in a wash of arterial blood and had Cat's scream, full-throated pain, faded from its wringing echo in his mind, it might've looked harmless enough. Steve didn't understand what this thing was, alien or manufactured or both, or something different altogether, but he knew it was dangerous and he knew they needed to keep people away from the tech all around, even if all they had was a cut.—Even if he had the knowledge similar to Cat's that the government would rather take out the facility and everyone in it, than deal with the fallout, he was determined to not let that happen. Which meant getting things under control.
As the woman stood, shaky and sure all at once, pushing away from him and the other man, Steve followed suit. He moved away, through the city block of servers, to his 'shield,' and he lifted it like it wasn't hundreds of pounds of metal. He wasn't worried about his secret(s), not anymore.—He looked at the others, or their approximate locations, and he would've nodded if he thought he could be seen.] Okay. You reach out to him on the comms, see if you can find him and get his location. [Steve was unaware, at least consciously, that he was giving orders. He was just acting as he did in situations like these.] Rounding them up, the infected, isolating them in a low tech room might be our best option. We can't hope to kill all of them, and they're more dangerous if we let them wander around. [To the other man.] Try the fire. [He nodded at the little group, likely unseen, with only fading blue limning the shape of his jaw and body, and he went to the door, still ajar.
He was prepared to move slower, for Cat's sake, but that still wasn't very slow. She was on her feet and she wanted to do this. He wasn't going to force her into anything else. He did look over his shoulder as he passed into the hallway. It would be better if they cauterized Cat's wound, but Steve was unsure—he didn't know if there was more... wiring growing in her, flowering in her nervous system. He shook his head and started running for the stairs.]
