I think it comforts people to think there's a reason they're here, that they're not just on a rock in the middle of a vacuum falling at a thousand miles per hour. It could be called pretense, but, even if it's based on unreasoned tenets, it doesn't mean it's illogical, necessarily. It's logical when you think of our brain structure, how it evolved and how we needed a framework to understand how we got here. It's logical to feel fear at your own insignificance. I don't believe in any of it, but I guess I get why people do. We don't need truths or proof to feel better, just something we can understand. At least a lot of people, maybe not you.
Plus, it's totally normal for humans to disagree with each other, even if it doesn't make sense.
