Re: eddie/steph log: waffles
Eddie had to admit to himself that he missed the way Stephanie looked through even the bleakest situation with hope. Like she could see the surface of the murky depths they got pulled into when no one else could. Of course, it wasn't always like that and there were times when her eyes didn't have any light at all, but he was so glad to see it back. Bright blue, like a clear sky. It made him hold onto her a couple of moments longer than he should have, longer than any divorce handbook would have recommended and he found himself not really giving a damn.
"His girlfriend- well it's actually something right out of the Jersey playbook." Eddie said, filling their plates with waffles and bacon. "She had a kid and then came back to Repose only to be infected with hallucinogen that made her maybe kill a guy." Eddie gave Stephanie a look like sound familiar? because that was exactly the kind of thing that would go down back home. In fact, it happened so often that people barely even made a fuss about it. "Gossip is at an all time high and our sheriff had to step down since he's romantically involved with the potential killer. It's all juicy small town stuff that makes no sense to me. But, I do love gossip."
Eddie really did.
He set the table, putting the plates of waffles down and then went to fetch them coffee: making Stephanie's exactly the way she liked out of pure impulse. Stephanie said something about proper vacations and it almost made Eddie cry (he didn't know why; he hadn't cried in years) and he looked up at her with a sad smile. "I was in a bad place while you were gone. I wanted everything to be blank. I wanted everything to feel like Hawaii." And, he knew she'd know what that meant.
Eddie handed her the mug of coffee and then took a seat in front of his stack of pancakes. "The house? Oh, Stephanie. You don't want to hear about that." He made a dismissive gesture with his napkin before putting it in his lap. "Sasha's married to a voodoo god, right? And one of his homeboys infected a professor who was, and I say this without irony, amazing at puzzles. Not as good as me, of course. But amazing." Eddie cut into the waffles, making sure each knife slice was over a waffle groove. "He turned into a snake man and released some strange gas, so I assumed blowing up the house would dissipate it. Unfortunately, my C4 only made it stronger." Eddie took a bite. "The whole town suffered from hallucinations, which yes seems to be a theme here as it was back home!"
