eddie/steph log: waffles
Eddie's cabin was a quaint triangle on the edge of the carnival grounds. It was spring, so he had planted assorted wildflowers around the entrance in blues, purples, yellow and whites. Colorful, as always. It wasn't anything like what the city slicker would have picked for himself back in New Jersey, but things had changed. Eddie had finally figured out how to achieve something close to happiness in the small town of Repose and it involved embracing the quiet life with a little oddity on the side.
But, just like in New Jersey, the universe loved to go topsy-turvey the second he got comfortable. First it was Cat's NOT-boyfriend going missing and now it turned out that Stephanie hadn't bailed and actually got herself in a mess that wasn't easy to fix. Eddie told himself that he would have preferred she just left and found somewhere else to be happy, but he was glad to have her back. He was glad she even wanted to see him after months and months of missed connections.
When she arrived and knocked on the door, Eddie shouted "It's open!" from the kitchen. The inside of his house looked like it was decorated by a mix between a Disney enthusiast and an actual wizard. Books stacked high, paintings hanging on the walls and lights strung up everywhere. Above, there were a few of his animatronic birds. Some awake and looking around as if they were real, some "sleeping" on their perches. Past the hallway and into the living room were some old relics, glowing stones that smelled like a Mad Hatter's tea party and unfinished robot parts. It was warm, comforting as if there was a place to take a nap in every corner of each room with big arm chairs, couches, pillows and hand quilted blankets.
The kitchen was small and rustic with mismatched chairs, an old thrift shop table and a bouquet of flowers in the middle. The whole cabin smelled like breakfast food. Bacon, waffles, coffee, warm syrup. For someone who lived on his own, who rarely let anyone visit his cabin, it looked like his place was the most inviting place in Repose.
Eddie himself was wearing a dark green Hawaiian shirt that was open, a black t-shirt under and flannel PJ pants. He looked a little older, this town's fault as much as it was New Jersey, and there were rings under his eyes from a lack of sleep. He was happy to see her though and when he smiled, the sides of his eyes crinkled like they used to.
"Hey." He said and then smiled as Matilda came trotting down from upstairs to say hello, too.
