Re: quicklog: Atticus, Casper, Carver, Michael, Will
['Help the church' was kind of an interesting way to put your job. What did that mean, exactly? When you died and turned up again 'working for the church'? Somehow Michael suspected there was a little more to working for the Vatican as a resurrected ex-demon hunter than taking confession. Curiosity made him want to follow that thread, but the tiny, stifled voice of social propriety told him not to, if he didn't want to kick off another fight by saying the wrong thing.
He took a long pull from his glass and picked up a shot for good measure, not to be left out. His pool cue resting in the crook of his arm, he curved the other hand around and downed it, wincing a little. He didn't drink a lot of hard alcohol, but hey, he went to college once. He caught Will nearly touching Carver's arm out of the corner of his eye, and watched Carver split from him neat as two opposing forces, and that was interesting.]
We should all say we were working for the Vatican. [Cheerful, a joke on the extreme achievement of tossing off working for the Vatican like no big, rather than the substance of the statement.] I got some letters attached to my name by some nice people who let me pay them, and then I got a couple jobs making robot arms. I think we've entered into a game of surreal oneupmanship, guys.
