Re: Motel: Steve & Meredith
The woman took the ice and Steve said nothing, relinquishing it to her grip and simply watching as she pressed it far too hard to the bridge of her nose. She needed some acetaminophen. He couldn't see her nose well enough to know if she required more than gauze and lying with her head back, however, so he didn't say anything about that either. He stood, momentarily useless, as the redheaded woman smiled over at him and picked up her key.
Steve tried to be gentle. "Here.—Let me try—" He held his hand out for the keys, palm open, and if she gave them, he tried the door, forcing it with his shoulder once he was sure the lock had actually withdrawn, the door was just stuck in its frame. With a loud scrape and thud, it opened into a dark room. Steve passed back the keys, if she hadn't gone in. He appraised her with unadulterated blue eyes and gave her another warm smile. "Have you ever broken your nose before?" He wouldn't tell her what to do, if she already knew to do it.
