Re: Church: Carver/Claire
Claire was lost in the pulse under his words, almost disappointed when he stopped talking. He was so kind, so devout, and had been that way since he was young. Even in the middle of all that chaos, he took the time to be with a stranger that needed someone to just be there. "You were supposed to be there. He led you there. To see. To show you." Her fingers laced with his, and when he kissed her shoulder she brushed her cheek against his forehead. His past was a difficult subject, and while she wanted to know what made him choose to delve into the darkness, she decided to take a different route, "Would you rather not go on any missions? Just work in the church?" The unsaid question of Would you prefer a normal life?
That binder seemed so impersonal. How was that supposed to inspire anyone? His skepticism was mirrored in the small furrow of her brow, but then he brought up Cecilia. She remembered the joyous voice that had rang out in her mind when he first touched her, and Claire could absolutely believe it. It made her laugh light under her breath, and she squeezed his hand, "I have no doubt. I bet they peg you for more of the Michael type. I don't suppose it comes as a surprise that Mary Magdelene is mine." As if there was any other option.
The town did stress her out, but being here with him made her forget about any struggles she may have had. And hearing him say he was there for her was enough to make her heart flutter, "I know," and without a hint of Star Wars irony. Because she didn't even know what Star Wars was. Instead it was said with all the certainty as if it were resolution of a prophecy given by God Himself. She was all smiles as she leaned down to kiss him, stopping just shy of his lips, and she gazed into his eyes with a divine confidence that comes with those with true Faith, "He led you to me, too." And then she did kiss him, sweetly, and while it may not have been the most chaste, there was a purity there behind it.
Claire slipped closer to him on the beanbag, hungry to be next to him after denying herself contact for so long, "What can you tell me about this wizard?"
