Re: Carnival Trailer: Sam & Meredith
It was idle boredom that had her even continuing the conversation with Cris. It wasn't that she wanted him to suffer, but the way he reacted towards even the most generic of words was interesting. Maybe it was a change within her, that promise of something in exchange for what she gained having altered something within her, but honestly, Meredith couldn't find it in herself to care about the words he said. They had long since stopped hurting, stopped stabbing deep inside. Perhaps she was just resigned to her fate as being someone who hurt others, whose very existence was trouble for everyone around her.
Jules had been right, after all.
But the conversation was growing bland and Meredith had put her phone down in exchange for her knitting (which was much more interesting now that she could see again), and needles were clacking as she knitted and purled and felt the weight of the yarn as it ran between her fingers. But then someone was pounding at her door, hard and loud enough that she jumped with surprise.
It took only a moment to figure out who was there, angry thoughts that were nearly screamed, and Meredith simply sat where she was. Maybe she'd simply go away. Lose interest. Go back to the sheriff and whatever else was going on with her.
She just didn't care enough to answer. But she was glad that her lock was holding - for the moment.
