Re: Woods: Claire/Daniel
There was no doubt that under any other circumstances, Daniel would have gotten hold of her, probably even hurt her. That was partially her fault, in so much as Claire would have a horrible dilemma in raising a weapon to harm him, even in defense. Her heart pounded in her chest, rapid but strong, a deafening rhythm that spelled out little else than excitement for impending battle. Old habits and all that.
He was hurt and confused, that much was apparent in the way he moved. Even his focus when he actually looked at her was off. Not that she could consider what Daniel was doing as 'looking' with the mess of blood over one side and strained squint from the other. Claire could tell she was still in his sights, which wasn't entirely uncommon given the Inquisition's proclivity for wearing bright 'make-me-a-target' red. Daniel should have already been after her once more. He hesitated, her grip tightened on the shaft of her spear, and Claire held her breath until he said that one word.
Isabella. The name pulled the corners of her lips into a small smile. "Oh, Deo gratias," Hushed Latin slipped out of her without thinking, relief flooding through her. There would be no more pain today. The spear was dropped with no hesitation, clattering against exposed roots when she disarmed herself. She could feel the rush of strength and power it gave her drain from her body, and even though she was close to Daniel, the warning of danger it bestowed faded just as quickly. The ritual was interrupted. It was of no concern anymore. She'd found him. She could help him.
The clasp at Claire's neck was unhooked with deft gloved fingers, and cloak was pulled off of her shoulders, "My Inquisitor cloak. It was the only thing I could think of that would cover you, tesoro." Her steps were hurried to stand before him, not giving him much of a choice in the matter as she flung the huge hooded monstrosity over him like a blanket to get the sun off. "Is that okay? Is it thick enough?" She didn't want any more damage to be caused to him.
