Re: Outside the Roadhouse: Gwen & Sheriff Martin.
When he turned off the music, she just stared at the radio, not quite understanding what happened. Maybe it was super obvious, but this was only her second time in a vehicle, and she didn't understand that the radio produced the music that was playing. She was accustomed to music. She listened to it a lot at the facility, and she didn't like silence very much. Maybe that was totally weird, because she could probably concentrate better with the quiet, but she didn't like having uninterrupted thoughts. She thought complete silence was maybe a lot like being dead, and the cessation of biological function was one of those things she tried not to think about too often.
But he was helping perfect her backstory, and she nodded when he mentioned sentiment and not referring to her parents by their first name. "Mom and dad, and dad passed on while on the job," she amended. "ID from New York would be super realistic. You can do that? I figured it might be better to get a real ID issued legitimately, but if you think that's not necessary, then that's okay too."
She looked out the window into the dark, and she found she wasn't scared of the trees. It was better to be out in the dark, than it was to be locked up somewhere safe and without freedom. "I think that was his implication, yes, sir. I'm not sure how much I believe him, but I think he believes it himself." And, when a cabin came into view, "is that it?"
