Re: Outside the Roadhouse: Gwen & Sheriff Martin.
"We got a word for that. It's 'nosy.'" Which was true. And by some definitions, Cris mighta fit in there, but he was better with the pushiness, huh? At least he could make it seem like it was their idea to tell him things, which was a good skill to have. Anyway, it wasn't a moral label he was slapping onto Jude. It was just fact. Nosiness was a selfish kinda curiosity. "Jason's right." Cris lifted his energy drink and took a swigga it, tasting chemical lemon bright on his tongue. He smacked his lips. "You got ideas? For backstory?" He didn't say that he thought the names were too similar, even though he did. "I can get you an out-of-state ID, if it'd better suit your story. I just gotta know what you need. The most important thing, like Jason said, is just pickin' something and stickin' with it. Bein' confident about it. People don't usually disbelieve people, 'less there's something obviously off."
He knew more about taking on a new identity than most, huh? And how to make it work. He didn't have the experiencea running from some facility, but there was some overlap.
A corkscrewa black appeared between Cris' brows when Gwen said Jason and Peter cheated. It wasn't even on this Gwen and he was offended on her behalf. He shook his head. The wrapper on the bar crinkled in the girl's small palms. "I hope you got better taste than she does." It was a partial joke, and Cris punctuated it with a smile so she got that. It didn't even occur to him that maybe she just had two boyfriends at once. His brain just didn't go there. "That's good." Seeing the kid, even with darker hair, would compromise Gwen's identity, Cris was surea that. "Jason seems to be doin' better with you."
