Re: Mean-Eyed Cat: Cat & "Leena"
Cat looked for recognition in Helena's eyes, some spark when the girl heard her own name. But there was nothing, and it wasn't like Dickie, who seemed to be reaching for some missing truth that he could feel. It made her sad, which was odd. If someone had told her that she'd get a do-over, that Helena would forget all the bad things, that Cat could start from scratch with her daughter? She would've been happy. Abstract, because here? Actually seeing Helena like this? She would've preferred the girl hate her in an instant, if she could just give Helena back what she'd lost.
"Safe?" Cat asked, because that? Was important. "Do you need help with anything?" Cat asked the question seriously, because Helena going missing? Bruce being kidnapped and forgetting things? Wasn't it all too coincidental? Cat lowered her voice, and she wished Helena remembered the Russian Cat had taught her when she was very small, but she knew that would be too much to ask. Whisper. "If you're in danger, we can help." We, because in some things? She could still consider her and Bruce a we, and this was one of them.
But Helena was asking about meeting people, and Cat thought about that. "I could tell Bruce. Or you could call him yourself. I can give you his cell number. It might be easier to start small. Bruce. Your aunt Sasha. Eddie. They're easiest. Your brothers? Are a little difficult." Her expression? Said that was an understatement.
