Dante had been pouring over countless books. Learning how rocks and crystals reacted with electricity, what happened when they were put under physical pressure, what their breaking points were before they’d shatter under pressure, how well they conducted electricity, what temperatures they would fracture at, how their hardness compared to steel, and many many more factors. The idea was simple: Laser crave bolts, screws, and whatever other pieces she could so that they could effectively be infused with magical energies to increase their durability, and then they’d be enchanted to become ‘batteries’ inside the car. Pieces of the car that helped it’s movement and also - at the same time - supplied power to it would result in a whole new form of vehicle as she and anyone else knew it. From the factor that the bolts and screws and things kept everything together or rubbed up against movement points - it all depended upon where the screws and bolts were being placed and used of course - she could also potentially also try to do some kinetic energy conversations but that became a lot more tricky without an open air port like she’d been messing with on the glider’s design. However, if they could exchant things to catch the energies from the friction of moving parts then they’d have an auto-conversion point with which the car would constantly generate its own energy and fuel. From what she’d been reading, it should be totally do-able. Maybe not by her for all the enchanting parts, but she could get all the parts together, make everything and have it ready for assembly while someone else - probably Tobias - did the enchanting they’d need. Though that meant an entire re-design and redistribution of the various internal parts of the car paired with an obvious need for adjustment of part weight redistribution. Everyone had been trained to expect cars to move in certain ways - accelerating and stopping at certain rates, not drifting due to lack of weight in the rear, etc - which meant when you removed a battery and gas tank from a car? It totally made the car feel different to drive as well, and minimizing the need to re-learn how to drive a fucking car would be paramount in assuring customer satisfaction. Aside from the fact that Dante was getting a massive crash course in Magic 101, what not to do to murder yourself. Honestly, the whole thing still left her slightly uneasy. Everything she’d seen on the dark web that had to do with magic always seemed extra fucking horrible and well, icky, but… Tobias wasn’t a bad guy. Even if he had no idea about the mechanic or her other life, she knew enough about him to know he wasn’t about to fuck shit up. Magically, financially or otherwise. That was why she’d taken this job. Aside from the fact that it was actually fucking interesting, unlike almost everything else at the shop that had become old hat about a month after she’d bought the damn shop. This was an actual challenge, something to stretch her creative and scientific muscles on and holy fuck had Dante needed that. Fuck this town was boring when it wasn’t fucking horribly traumatic. Yeah, she’d need to get out of here sooner than later, that was for sure. Now if only Spider would show her fucking face so Inferno could put her fucking boot through--- No, those violent thoughts were for another time. For now she had a car to make. A car that was her meal ticket for anything she might want in the near future or beyond. A car that would allow her to buy her father any birthday present he might want, a car that… It was a lot to think about. How much money she was making off this car and it made her nervous but that didn’t matter. Not here, not now. Her nerves weren’t what would get the job done. With that job in mind Dante would pop out of Dart, only removing her sungalsses once she was inside the shop and quickly hung them from the collar of her shirt. Delyth was supposed to be in today from what they’d briefly chatted about on the boards and hopefully, just fucking hopefully, this lady would have what Dante needed or would be able to order it. Seeing a nearby worker Dante would smile. “Hey! How’re you?” It was a polite and friendly greeting with a smile. It would only take a few moments of conversing with the worker before she’d make it to being directed to where Delyth was in the store. A bright smile and a ‘Thanks! Have a good one!’ was offered in parting from the worker before Dante moved towards the back of the shop where Delylth supposedly would be. Delyth had been expecting the mechanic. Her request had seemed somewhat out of the blue, but in its own way it was nice. Moving here, settling, trying to get her business better known around town had been a little exhausting and to have someone know she had some knowledge and come to see her - was gratifying. It was also of course always a little unnerving because who knew what she knew or what she understood about magic or the crystals. And there was always a game to figure that out. Del had suppliers of course, but they wouldn’t necessarily appreciate someone giving out their names and so Del needed to figure out what Dante knew and whether she could be trusted or if Del should play the inbetween. As it was she offered the other woman a smile, “hello! It’s good to see you.” She nodded to the shelf nearest the register which was filled with jewelry- necklaces, rings, and even some smaller crystals that could be used in pockets. “What can I help you with though?” “Hey!” Dante greeted Delyth with the same smile and cheer that she’d greeted the worker with just moments before. A hand was instantly reaching out to offer to shake with the other woman as well. “It’s nice to see you too.” They hadn’t exactly crossed paths before in person specifically but it was a small enough town and they’d talked a few times on the boards at this point. As Delyth nodded towards the shelves Dante’s eyes would follow and she looked over the shelves a moment, considering the pieces available, before her face fell with a momentarily displeased frown. “Yeah, those won’t work.” Eyebrows furrowed pulling into a tight scrunch for a moment as she considered. It wasn’t enough and none of them were large enough to be laser cut unless she wanted to fight with a ton of smaller pieces. “So.” A sigh would slip out as her brain raced through how to handle this next. “I’m trying to create an experimental tech that’ll…” Her jaw worked before deciding that it was just better to spit it out. “Well, I’m planning on laser cutting bolts and screws out of the crystal formations and then… Tempering them… To be resistant to various environmental and pressure effects. So, I’ve done a little research and I think I probably need Quartz for its hardness and durability but also it’s… Conductivity.” A tight smile was briefly offered as she attempted to talk around both herself and any potential curiously listening ears. “But I’m no expert here. So what do you think?” And the ask was clearly deeply sincere. Delyth was the expert here, not Dante, and Dante knew that and was seeking guidance appropriately. To say Del was not a technical person was probably an understatement, but of course crystals could be used with magic and some were used in spells, and that was something she knew something about. The question was, would those principles work the same? She paused… and then headed behind the counter. After a pause, she pulled out one of the larger catalogs that she used. "Quartz might make sense," Del frowned, trying to think if anything made more sense. "I usually think about crystals in a slightly different way," she admitted, with a half glance at the shelves. "As it probably is obvious, but how large do you think you would need?" “No, I’m not sure you’re thinking about them wrong.” Dante would gently correct, a sort of sympathy there. How did she say she needed them for actual real magical spell work without sounding like a total fucking psycho though? That was the trick. “I’ll need to be able to move various currents through them, so whatever has the most conductivity for an influx of energies aside from the durability properties.” Okay, maybe she was making this sound too technical. Was that the problem? “What helps energies flow best? Let’s start there.” Hopefully, that would give them both enough of a initial idea that they could work out where they needed to go together without telling the rest of the store that Dante wanted crystals for spells and a magical car. "I mean, I'm usually thinking of emotional and physical energies," Delyth paused, glanced over at the shelves and tilted her head. "And there it really depends upon what you're wanting to do or what type of energy you want to connect or amplify, and so on." She looked back at the catalog in front of her. "So it does depend upon what type of energy. If you're running an intense lot of energy through something - like say you were running electricity through it - then you're looking at a different type of crystal probably than you would be if you were thinking about emotional energy or a more low-key type of physical energy - for instance what you would put off if you're wearing a crystal." Delyth adopted a small smirk. "That probably sounds terribly woo woo." It would, if you didn't know about magic, or that spells and crystals combined could create a very protective element to one's physical health. “Let’s say a couple different types.” That same tight smile flashed again briefly in response to Delyth’s questions about the types of energies being discussed. From there she’d remain quiet, letting the other woman - the expert of this exchange - speak without interruption. “Just woo woo enough.” There was a wink tossed in at the end of her words in hopes that the combined responses might clue the other woman in even further. “I will need to run electricity through it as one of the energies though, yeah.” Because that was important too. “But I’ve got tricks for… Tempering that.” Here’s to seeing where the fuck this was gonna go. "Well with durability you're looking generally at diamonds, ruby, sapphires, etc, but those are all fairly expensive and if you're looking at large quantities, not probably super helpful here. Quartz may be the best for conductivity - in terms of emotional energy it tends to harmonize and align, assisting with mental clarity, etc. Garnet is another fairly durable crystal and generally is used cleanse and re-energize - it's also used to balance energies, so if you're looking at different types, it might be worth playing with Garnet. I'm not certain about conductivity on it though, so it might not work." “Don’t need it that durable.” Dante offered in response to diamonds, her smile a bit more knowing now that she felt like they were getting on the same page. “Gonna spend some time conditioning the crystals” She shifted so no one could see the air quotes around the word ‘conditioning’ Dante made with her fingers aside from Delyth. “to what I need for heat and hardness and resistance but having a good base of durability mixed with high current flow for electrical and other is ideally the type of base I think starting on would make sense. Especially, since I’m going to need a slab of the material to cut bolts and screws and other parts out of.” At the additional information provided about Garnet though Dante paused, thinking about the suggestion for a moment and realizing she really knew little to nothing about it the material. “Tell me what else Garnet can do?” Delyth considered. "Obviously I use Garnet mostly in jewelry, but it's a good match for anyone who is looking to balance energy whether pulling in more serenity or offering more passion. It tends to help with emotional disharmony within people who wear it. Those are more of a spiritual or 'magical' if you will characteristic, of the stone, but if you need energy balanced using it in conjunction with quartz or another type of conductor might be something to consider." She reached for one of the necklaces from her display and held it out for Dante. "This is obviously a small one, but it's the stone as it is in its raw form. I've always thought it was a pretty one." “So you’re thinking maybe both Garnet and Quartz might work better together?” It was a sincere inquiry to Delyth’s expertise as Dante’s eyes continued to follow what the other woman would show. “Well, the energies that my commission will run on will be channeled through so probably having some options wouldn’t be bad.” Eyes had narrowed thoughtfully at the piece, considering it. “How much would a slab of each run?” That was a question Delyth wasn't entirely certain of. She typically bought her crystals in smaller quantities because what she was doing with them was much smaller and she didn't need huge or perfect pieces. "I'll have to look into it. Perhaps I can call my suppliers and find out what the larger pieces might cost. Do you have a size that you're looking for here?" There was a moment of consideration given to the question and Dante couldn’t help a thoughtful hum. What size did make sense? She’d already gotten the laser cutter set up so they could probably work with a smaller sheet if needed as well for finer details. “Let’s start with a notebook sheet. Eight and a half by eleven? Gonna need it at least two inches thick. Think you can do that?” Delyth nodded shortly. Not entirely certain but it did give her numbers and she could call around. She reached for the computer, and clicked on her bookmarks so she could look up the contact information. "You know, we'll find out." |
