Re: Janus A/Eames: the 'Stop
A muscle twitched at Janus' left eye. "Not enough. Thanks anyway." He worked the straw out of his teeth, then dipped it slowly, painfully, back into the cup, swirling the liquid around. He still watched Eames' face, curious. He debated whether or not to point out what the offer meant, and decided against it. Whether affirmation or denial, it wouldn't change anything. Not here, anyway.
It was like bartering with a hooker. Janus did not enjoy seeing Eames debate how much changing the state was worth, as it was Janus' state. He thought he'd wanted to watch, but no, he didn't. He looked away. Why hadn't it occurred to him to ask for a bit of memory or talent when Atticus had asked if there was anything he could do? Because Atticus didn't make deals. Atticus Sr.
