It was, for what it was, a peculiarly ebullient sort of hurt which Eames assumed came with knowing it would have an ending, and the ending wasn't permanent. Had it been Vaughn or Miles or even Cobb lying on a cot half-dead, Eames's reaction would have been bleaker: he'd seen men in states like this and it usually concluded one way. He watched Janus grip the cup and he raised one eyebrow at the bloodied grin, the crimson gloss to teeth.
"How much power, to change?" He didn't tack on 'darling', it wasn't even arch, it was a business equation. Janus looked about as close to dead as you got and still stayed alive. Eames didn't think that was a walk in the park to get back from. "I don't suppose you can bargain with yourself to get out of it."
