Re: Kit/Mari/Dinah/Cris: the convenience store
There was a moment, an instant, when eyes were on her--however brief--and she was back at Crossroads Church. The eyes from the pews looking at her, expectantly, morbidly curious, fearful and disgusted. The Reverend's distant shouts reverberated against old wooden pillars. Except she was alone, there was no Beckett with his head down beside her. She knew that's not how they were looking at her right now, not at all, but her mind did what it wanted. Still, she nodded once again in greeting to Cris and Kit. "Hi," she managed. It wasn't weak, or timid, just dry as if she hadn't quite gotten used to her voice, it just needed some dusting off. Like Kit ascertained, she didn't have much of a presence in the grand scheme of it all, and that was fine by Dinah.
Her head did perk more at the mention of food. Whose wouldn't when everything smelled so good? "Oh, yeah. Outside is good." She agreed with Mari. Dinah liked the mix of English and Spanish, personally. Something about it sounded pretty, it flowed from rhythm to rhythm--effortlessly, but back to the matter at hand--outside was definitely better, Dinah wasn't so much concerned about what the clock would do as to what...yeah, Cris was fond of his store, with good reason and she didn't want to be the cause of any damage. Not to mention any damage to them. Her eyes momentarily drifted to Kit despite herself. Not worried? Not quite, but she wasn't about to admit that.
She finally took a breath and crossed the room to where Mari and Cris were peering over the food. Food could also make her move, apparently. "You made this?" A glance up to Cris. "It looks good. Thank you." Her hands hesitated, but she reached to the container Mari had opened to take a maduro between her fingers. It looked delicious, her stomach flared and she followed in suite, popping it into her mouth enjoying the sweetness bursting over her tongue. This time, without hesitation she took another as she swallowed the first.
