Re: Woods: Holly and Rafe
Rafe appreciated directness to a point, knowing that it had its place in things and that it often saved a lot of trouble (not to mention confusion), whereas the wolf would tolerate nothing less. The wolf didn't understand the need to be soft or cautious with people, all that special care taken not to push buttons or hurt feelings. Such things didn't make any sense to a creature that was all instinct and aggression. So odds were the wolf would perhaps not flat out like Holly but at least respect that directness of his.
It wouldn't have surprised Rafe in the least to learn that there was a monster skulking around somewhere, whether it was above ground or below it, though he wouldn't have been thrilled to hear it. All in all Repose seemed to be shaping up to have a little bit of everything. Looking at the guy who identified himself only moments later Rafe couldn't help but wonder just how much more there was to him than met the eye. There was that something he couldn't put his finger on, as he had already assessed, but what more was going on beneath the surface? And was he wondering the same thing about Rafe himself? If he was then good for him. That meant he was smart, and practical. Two good traits to have in a place like Repose.
"Holly, right," Rafe said, nodding his head a little to show that he'd heard the name and knew the association even though the (seemingly) younger man went on to state it anyway. Rafe did stand then, recognising that Holly was taller than him but not really noting it beyond that plain and obvious fact. He was used to guys being taller than him, in the military and out of it. The wolf knew better than to think that size meant everything as well. "I'm Rafe," he returned, because knowing who this guy was told him that he could offer that information if they were on any sort of good terms with someone like Hugh. "I was one of the people trying to figure out one happened to her." He looked down at his hand and the remnants of dirt there, and then at the ground before lifting his gaze again with a frown. "I'm still trying to figure it out, as it happens." Because what point was there in withholding that information? If Holly was another werewolf then he would have but considering he wasn't? Well, he didn't see what he had to lose.
